Google Might Be Making Your Internet 1,000 Times Faster

network solution rentalsWe live in a world that is constantly on the go. We always want things to move faster and faster. Judging by today’s standards, our level of patience as a society is getting shorter and shorter. Everything from fast food to text messaging. We always want things to move just a little bit faster. We’ve come a long way from dial-up, and even still, we want more speed. Our internet speeds could always be faster right? Loading pages quicker, better quality Netflix streaming, and even less lag when you are playing your favorite online game. Now, what if it could be faster. A lot faster, actually. What if our internet connection speeds could be 1,000 times faster than they are today.

Google is working to make that very dream become a reality.

The average internet speed in the US today is around 7.2 megabits per second. Should Google be able to increase the speed 10 gigabits per second, we could be looking at speeds of up to 1,000 times faster than what we have been used to. According to Google’s CFO, Patrick Pichette, this is part of a vision that Google has for the next generation of internet. They want to see more stable connections, which they hope will lead to more usage for the software overall. Pichette went on to say that this is “where the world is going”, and that “it’s going to happen”. While this speed transition could happen within the next ten years or so, Pichette had the question of “Why wouldn’t we make it available in 10 years?”. He is going forward with the notion that we shouldn’t have to wait 10 years to get the faster internet that we have been wanting.

Even if you have a relatively fast connection, there also has to be a method to the madness. Correct? Well the current situation is that even if you have a high broadband connection, like 100Mbps or 1Gbps, all of the usage is being taken up by other types of tech. Every time you want Netflix, get on a Skype call, go online to play the latest Call of Duty, update your software, or access your cloud storage, you are using up your connection speed and bandwidth availability. As time moves forward, so will our technologies and internet services. The advancement in these two aspects will cause a need for higher bandwidth. For example, Netflix is planning on introducing 4K streaming to go along with the new 4K TV craze. 4K streaming is going to need a 15Mbps internet connection, at least.

The benefits that could come from the faster internet speeds are definitely worth it. The extra speed could easily help keep a more real-time communication level between businesses. Conference calls on Skype could remain crystal clear and not lag. Transferring large files across the globe could become almost seamless. Everyone, globally, could really benefit from getting a speed upgrade to their internet connections and bandwidth hosting. If Google is able to pull this off within the next three years, we could really see the next generation of technology come at a quicker pace.
