Everyone has a few bad days here and there, it’s totally normal! Being in a bad mood does, however, keep you from being productive in most cases. When you are in a good mood, it is much easier to keep yourself on track and people genuinely like you more. If you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but you have important things to do, you should try these simple, proven methods to put yourself in a better mood and get the most out of your day.
1. Think of All the Positives
I know it sounds corny, but it really works. A lot of times, you can lose track of all the things you have going for you in life. Most people who feel like their world is falling apart are just in a sarcastic state of mind. In moments of intense stress, take a moment to grab a note pad and list everything good that is going on in your life. You will be really surprised at how quickly they add up, and you might even end up feeling silly for being so stressed out in the first place.
2. Give Yourself a Quick Confidence Booster
Sometimes we just have to take a little inspiration from Kanye West and boost our own ego a little bit (this should probably be the only inspiration we take from “Yeezus”). Even if you have done something really stupid, you should be able to take a moment and tell yourself all of the good things you have going for you. For instance; I personally am having a really good hair day, and the blue shirt I’m wearing is really doing it for me right now. I’m in a better mood already.
Always remind yourself that you are smart, a good person and that you have the skills to get the job done no matter what.
3. Make a Thank-You List
We all have those days where our undies are in a bunch because we feel like we don’t get enough appreciation. This can make you pretty angry, or even sad. The amount of appreciation you get is directly affected by the amount of appreciation you give out to others. And taking the time to appreciate others for some reason is really inspiring sometimes and makes you feel better by itself. Take a few moments to pick five people who have done something nice for you or put a smile on your face in the last few days. Make sure to say something to them before you leave the office that day! I promise you’ll feel better, and so will they.
4. 30-Second Dance Party
This is my favorite one out of them all, and it can go two different ways. If you are feeling stressed out or your mood is just “blah”, find a place in your building that doesn’t have any cameras so you don’t look like an idiot (or dance proudly with yo bad self!), and bust out in the dumbest dance moves you can think of for about 30 seconds. You may have a little less respect for yourself, but there is no way you can come out of that without being in a better mood.
If you’re in a SUPER bad mood, just shout out “DANCE PARTY” in the middle of your work group and start going to town. Some people will join in, and the once who don’t will think you’re crazy, but they will still smile. Either way, it’s sure to be a mood enhancer. Just don’t try and get everyone involved too often. This may result in people thinking you are insane and possibly getting fired.
