The CMP Conclave is almost here – are you ready? After a day spent in educational sessions, you deserve some time to relax and unwind with your friends and colleagues. With breweries popping up across the country, it’s a safe bet that you can find an ale, porter, or lager to suit your tastes, but it can be hard to know what’s hot and what’s not when you’re in a new city. Never fear – our handy guide to the top breweries in Birmingham will have you singing the praises of the city.

Good People
In the heart of the Parkside District, Good People Brewing Company is the spot for a daytime drink. Located just across the street from Regions Field, in good weather the taproom spills out of the confines of the building and takes to the alley and courtyard with bean bag toss games and Edison bulb string lights to carry the party into the evening. You can even enjoy a tour of the brewing area that includes a collectible glass and a pint. If you enjoy a hoppy and robust brew, you can’t go wrong with Snake Handler Double IPA. Lighter and smoother flavors are more your style? Go for The Bearded Lady American Wheat Ale.
Cahaba Brewing
Cahaba Brewing Company took up residence in the old Continental Gin Brewing Company building in 2016, after four years in the Lakeview District. Cahaba’s taproom boasts an open, relaxed atmosphere that invites you to take part in a game of skee-ball or the spill out onto the patio on warm evenings. For a different take on the classic American Amber Ale, try the Liquidambar with a hint of rye malt. Those with a passion for history might be drawn to one of their historic beers, like the Red Bike Brown Ale – a coffee nut brown ale created in collaboration with the Red Bike Coffee Company.

Avondale
The home of Avondale Brewing Company has a long and checkered past – serving as a brothel, a saloon, and a firehouse (among others). With a vast taproom, outdoor stage, and expansive lawn, Avondale Brewery has quickly become a hotspot for locals and visitors alike. The brewery draws on the history of the city, the frequently give their beers monikers that identify important events and people. The Spring Street Saison offers a crisp and refreshing taste that will quench any thirst. For a richer, more robust drink, you can’t go wrong with Miss Fancy’s Tripel – a Belgian golden ale named for the city’s greatest spokesperson, Miss Fancy the Elephant.
