Update March 2020: “As we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 outbreak, we will adjust census taker and survey operations as necessary in order to follow the guidance of federal, state and local health authorities,” the Census Bureau director, Steven Dillingham, said in the statement.
This statement comes after the news of the census announcing (at least) a two-week suspension its field operations while it searches for new ways to protect its workers from exposure to the coronavirus. On the other hand, the first part of the headcount appears to be going well, which involves persuading residents to fill out census forms online, by mail or over the telephone. Though some 11 million households have completed forms online or responded by mail or phone, the accuracy of the census ultimately depends on hundreds of thousands of trained census-takers who track down residents who are unable to receive them by mail. This count, which had only just begun, could resume again on April 2 if the bureau officials are satisfied that census workers can be adequately protected.
However, the biggest challenge of all will be in late May when hundreds of thousands of enumerators will be deployed to knock on the doors of every household that didn’t respond to an invitation to fill out census forms. In the past, enumerators’ work consisted of long sessions in residences’ households where they would fill out paper forms. This year, census-takers should be able to conduct most of their work from front porches, using iPad rentals or iPhone rentals to punch in results that transmit answers via a census application.
Census-Taking with Apple
With census takers preparing to hit the road to collect information on the more than 327 million people who live in the United States, the Census Bureau has announced that it plans to utilize Apple’s iOS to ensure speedier and easier data collection. With tens of thousands of census takers prepared to begin knocking on doors within the next few months, coordinating the delivery and setup of all of those devices is key to ensuring the success of the 2020 census. Here are just a few ways that iPads rentals and iPhone rentals can make data collection easier and faster and why choosing the right Apple product rental provider can make all the difference.
Data collection in the palm of your hand
Instead of relying on antiquated paper data collection, the Census Bureau is moving into the 21st century by relying on iPad rentals and iPhones rentals in the 2020 census. Rather than shuffling papers, census takers will be able to engage with participants in a more meaningful way.
Deploying that technology to thousands of census takers can be a logistical nightmare for even the most organized project manager. Setting up the app and software needed to gather data can be time-consuming on its own, let alone the testing and delivery of all of those devices. With a dedicated tech travel agent for every order, the experts at Rentacomputer provide unmatched customer service and the highest quality products. Our techs can upload Census apps and software to every iPad rental and iPhone rental. We test every device before it ships and deliver it straight to your recipients, no matter where they are.
Reduce barriers and stress
Gone are the days of census takers juggling stacks of clipboards, piles of forms, and bags full of pencils. The census takers of 2020 will be outfitted with the latest iOS technology to ensure that they get accurate data in less time, with less stress to themselves and respondents.
As America becomes more culturally and ethnically diverse, the Census Bureau has struggled to find census takers who speak the many languages represented by respondents. By conducting the Census on iPads and iPhones, census takers can change the language of the questions to match the language spoken by each individual respondent.
Additionally, many respondents may be wary to reveal their personal information to individual census takers. Allowing respondents to complete and submit their census data on an iPhone or iPad removes much of the weariness and stress that respondents have traditionally experienced. Every 10 years, the Census Bureau prints out more than 2 billion pieces of paper mailed to 130 million American households. Additionally, census takers have traditionally carried many hundreds of thousands of extra printed copies with them as they strive to fulfill their constitutional duty to collect data on every person in the country.
Thanks to iPhone rentals and iPads rentals, the Census Bureau will be able to save millions of dollars on each decade’s census. Check out Going Green to learn more about using technology rentals to reduce your event’s environmental impact.
With unlimited 3G and 4G data plans available on the nation’s most popular carriers, your iPhone rentals and iPad rentals will have a secure connection from anywhere at any time. Instead of having to reconcile data on the backend after the census taker turns in several hundred or thousand of forms, data can be instantly collected and reconciled in the Census Bureau’s system.
